Dental Care

Dental issues are a major concern for all small animals’ dogs, cats and rabbits. We are all aware of the need to look after our own teeth but it is equally important if not more so to care for our pet’s teeth as well. Many cats and dogs when older suffer from dental issues resulting in tooth decay and gum disease plus secondary bacterial issues affecting the kidneys and heart. Most modern dry diets will now provide a level of prevention both during the act of chewing and by reducing the salts that are in the saliva. Regular brushing and examination can be carried out by the owner and it is helpful to get your pet into this routine as early as possible.

Obviously by looking after our pets teeth the need for unnecessary dental procedures can be avoided, many of which are not covered by pet insurance. When dental work is necessary we have the latest dental equipment available and can provide dental x-rays when required.

We at the Ark Veterinary Surgery offer a wide range of free dental care clinics by our Qualified Veterinary Nurses at both of our branches.  Bad breath is only one sign of poor dental hygiene and the main issue could be less apparent. Remember it is important to detect dental problems early so please utilise our free nurse clinics.
